Corovan, a leading transportation and logistics company, has been serving the business-to-business sector since 1948. As Corovan expanded, the need for a more efficient, visible, and secure communication system became critical.

That’s where Dialpad came in. We sat down with Corovan leaders Tom Schmitz, Vice President of Sales, and Jose Bono, Marketing Manager, as well as Max Schmitz, Strategic Account Executive, to learn about their experiences and how Dialpad has helped transform their operations.

Corovan needed a solution for better visibility and control

Operating in a fast-paced industry that requires constant adaptability, Corovan faced challenges in maintaining visibility into its employees' activities, particularly within the sales team. With a mix of office phone systems and individual mobile phones, tracking outbound calls, monitoring contact center performance, and ensuring accountability were becoming increasingly difficult.

The shift to hybrid work during the pandemic added to these challenges, as traditional systems lacked the flexibility and insights needed to manage a dispersed workforce.

“We were struggling to get a full picture of our team's activities, especially their prospecting efforts,” explained Tom. “The hybrid work environment made it even more challenging to understand what was happening in our customers' facilities.”

Max added: “We struggled with visibility into how effective we were on the phones. So it’s really easy to get discouraged because you may be making a high volume of calls, but don’t really know if you’re successfully setting appointments.”

One of the most significant impacts Dialpad had on Corovan is in the area of training and accountability. The real-time voice transcription feature allows sales managers to monitor calls, provide coaching, and ensure best practices are followed:

Max added that voice transcription helps the team avoid distractions during customer calls. He shared: “During the call, you want to be focused on the actual conversation with the customer and maintain that focus. You don’t want to be focused on writing everything down.”

Ai Recap is another useful feature that helps the Corovan team focus during calls. Max shared: “Ai Recap gives you a good synopsis as well as any key action items that you need to do after the call. You get bullet points of the steps you need to do, which saves me at least 2 hours a week.”

Cutting onboarding time from a week to just one day

Dialpad’s training and coaching features have not only improved the quality of sales interactions but has also drastically reduced onboarding times for new hires.

We heavily use the real-time coaching features, like Real-Time Assist (RTA) cards, transcripts, and sentiment analysis, Max explained. The RTA cards are particularly helpful, covering topics like pricing, questions, and competitive mentions to guide conversations more effectively.

Jose added:

"Before Dialpad, it took us about a week to onboard a new sales rep. Now, with the Real-Time Assist cards and other training features, we can get them up and running in just one day."

This reduction in onboarding time translates into significant cost savings and allows Corovan to scale its operations more effectively.

Leveraging actionable metrics for better performance tracking

We've had situations where a salesperson was making a lot of calls but not seeing much success. With Dialpad, we can dig into the data, review the calls, and provide targeted coaching to help them improve. It's a game-changer for our team,”

Tom noted. Tom also shared how the training improvements have helped the company: “This improvement in training has led to lower attrition rates.” For an employee-owned company that values their employees deeply, this is a huge win.

All the improvements in sales operations have led to Corovan blowing their original goal of customer outreach out of the water, leading to more sales opportunities for the business. “We believe we’ve more than doubled our customer outreach goal. We’ve surfaced way more opportunities, and are bidding on things that we previously did not even know were available.”
